Martin St. Louis got a puck in the face last Thursday, just to add to the season’s toll of hockey pain. This was a game-day skate in New York, St. Louis’ Tampa Bay teammate Dominic Moore lifted a backhand at the net, missed, hit St. Louis in the face. “I couldn’t see out of my left eye, how the blood rushed through the eye,” St. Louis was saying this week after missing his first game since 2005. “Panic set in. I was very overwhelmed with the possibilities, you know.”

The damage mimicked terrible cuts above the eye, which doctors treated with stitch-like sutures. He also suffered fracture-like breakages to an orbital bone and the nose.

In other news, Sidney Crosby is injured again. His symptoms, say the Pittsburgh Penguins, are exactly like those you’d get if you had a concussion.
